Extremely rare Edmund Burke (Non Local) copper penny token dated 1806. Obverse: Bust of Burke to left with legend: “ONE POUND VALUE FOR 240”. Reverse: Crowned Irish harp with legend: “HIBERNIA 1806”. Very deeply centre grained edge (/////). Weakly overstruck on an E. Stephens penny with evidence of the underlying token visible. Davis maintains that the bust represents Edmund Burke but there may be some doubt about this attribution. Listed in Paul & Bente Withers' “British Copper Tokens 1811-1820” as “RRR - EXTREMELY RARE”.
