Scarce William Griffiths' Carmarthen (Carmarthenshire) copper penny token dated 1812. Obverse: Cask within an oak wreath: "PAYABLE BY W. GRIFFITHS & Co.1812". Reverse: The Shield of Arms of Carmarthen: "CARMARTHEN PENNY". Centre-grained edge. Listed in Paul & Bents Withers' "British Copper Tokens 1811-1820" as "SCARCE". William Griffiths was an ironmonger with businesses at St. Mary Street and Dark Gate, Carmarthen, and at Castle Street, Swansea. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
