Griffin’s Withymoor (Worcestershire) copper penny token dated 1814. Obverse: Detailed view of a forge and drop-hammers with: “WITHYMOOR SCYTHE WORKS” on a banner above, and “ONE PENNY 1814” in the exergue below. Reverse: A scythe and assorted knives above crossed shovels: “ONE POUND NOTE FOR 240 TOKENS PAYABLE BY * JAS GRIFFIN & SONS.”. Centre-grained edge (\\\\\\). James Griffin & Sons were manufacturers of agricultural implements with their business situated in Netherton, near Dudley, Worcestershire, not Staffordshire as Davis stated. Good collectable condition with a few light edge bruises and a reverse dig, see photograph.
