Very Rare Joseph Parker's Walsall Penny 1811


Very rare Joseph Parker’s Walsall (Staffordshire) copper penny token dated 1811. Obverse: Bust of Druid to left with legend: “PAYABLE BY JOSEPH PARKER.”. Reverse: Legend on five lines within oak wreath: “WALSALL TOKEN ONE PENNY 1811”. Plain edge. Listed in Paul & Bente Withers' "British Copper Tokens 1811-1820" as "RR - RARE". These were issued by Robert Parker who was a locksmith in Walsall. Good collectable condition for type, slightly off centre reverse, see photograph.
