Fletcher & Sharratt's Walsall Penny 1811


Fletcher & Sharratt's Walsall (Staffordshire) copper penny token dated 1811. Obverse: Image of a bear clawing at a post with legend: “PAYABLE BY FLETCHER & SHARRATT”. Reverse: legend on five lines enclosed within oak leaf and acorn wreath: “WALSALL TOKEN ONE PENNY 1811”. Diagonally grained edge (\\\\\\). Fletcher and Sharratt were saddlers and ironmongers. Ex-David Pottinger Collection. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
