William Cox’s Taunton (Somerset) copper penny token undated. Obverse: View of a blacksmith working in an iron forge with legend: “TAUNTON PENNY TOKEN”. Reverse: Legend on four lines in centre and round periphery: “A POUND NOTE FOR 240 TOKENS PAYABLE AT MESSRS. COX’S * IRON FOUNDRY *”. Centre grained edge (\\\\\). These were issued by William Cox who had a very successful ironmongery business in Taunton. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
