Scarce Edward Barker’s Rugeley (Staffordshire) copper penny token undated. Obverse: Legend on four lines in centre and around periphery: “ONE POUND NOTE FOR 240 TOKENS * ONE PENNY PAYABLE BY”. Reverse: Legend on three lines: “EDWARD BARKER RUGELY”. Finely diagonally milled edge (/////). Listed in Paul & Bente Withers' "British Copper Tokens 1811-1820" as "SCARCE". Edward Barker's business had many facets involved with chemicals including an acid works. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
