Chaston’s Lowestoft (Suffolk) copper penny token dated 1811. Obverse: Legend on three lines in centre and around periphery: “NON SIBI SED PATRIÆ * ONE PENNY TOKEN * PAYABLE AT I CHASTON’S LOWESTOFT”. Reverse: Commerce, seated and leaning on anchor, pointing to ship on horizon with legend: “SUCCESS TO THE LOWESTOFT FISHERIES 1811”. Centre-grained edge (\\\\\). John Chaston was a linen and woollen draper, and bank agent with a business in Lowestoft. Ex-Roberts-Lewis Collection. Good collectable condition with a light strike in the legends as usual, see photograph.
