Thomas Birkinshaw’s Doncaster (Yorkshire) copper penny token dated 1812. Obverse: Standing figure of Commerce holding scales, with a bale and cask either side and legend: “BIRKINSHAW DONCASTER”. Reverse: legend on four lines in oak wreath: “ONE PENNY TOKEN 1812”. Centre-grained edge (\\\\\\). Thomas Birkinshaw was a second-hand dealer and pawnbroker with a business in the Market Place, near the Castle Hotel. Doncaster. Nice collectable condition with uneven obverse colour, see photograph.
