Cornish Mines County Penny 1811


Cornish (Cornwall) County penny token dated 1811. Obverse: View of a mine pumping engine and winding gear: “* CORNISH ** PENNY * 1811”. Reverse: A fish between ingots of tin and cakes of copper: “FOR THE ACCOMMODATION OF THE COUNTY *”. Diagonally milled edge (/////). These were issued by John Williams (1753-1841), owner of Scorrier House, who was a mining engineer, speculator and entrepreneur. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
