West Wheal Fortune Mine, Ludgvan (Cornwall) silver-coloured gilt penny token undated. Obverse: The Prince of Wales plumes with “ICH DIEN” on banner and legend: “WEST WHEAL FORTUNE ONE PENNY TOKEN”. Reverse: View of St. Michael's Mount with sailing boat in foreground and legend: “CORNISH MOUNT ONE PENNY TOKEN”. Centre-grained edge (\\\\\). The West Wheal Fortune Mine at Ludgvan was one of the three main mines in Cornwall in the 18th Century, and the harbour on St. Michael's Mount was the most important, responsible for exports of copper, tin and salted fish. Good collectable condition, probably gilded at a later stage, see photograph.
