Scorrier House Cornish Mines Penny 1812


Cornish Scorrier House (Cornwall) penny token dated 1812. Obverse: View of a mine pumping engine and winding gear with legend: “PAYABLE AT SCORRIER HOUSE ONE POUND FOR 240 TOKENS 1812”. Reverse: The Prince of Wales plumes within a garter on which is: “CORNISH PENNY”. Centre-grained edge (\\\\\). These were issued by John Williams (1753-1841), owner of Scorrier House, who was a mining engineer, speculator and entrepreneur. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
