Scarce Samuel Fereday's Bilston (Staffordshire) penny token dated 1812. Obverse: Legend on four lines in centre and around periphery: “A ONE POUND NOTE FOR 240 TOKENS • ONE PENNY PAYABLE BY”. Reverse: Legend on four lines: “SAMUEL FEREDAY BILSTON 1812”. Diagonally milled edge (/////). Listed in Paul & Bente Withers' “British Copper Tokens 1811-1820” as “SCARCE”. Samuel Fereday was the largest industrialist in the area. Nice collectable condition with a couple of light reverse digs, see photograph.
