Glasgow South Portland Street Suspension Bridge Token 1853

South Portland Street Glasgow (Lanarkshire) white metal suspension bridge token dated 1853. Obverse: Legend on two curved lines with date in centre: "SOUTH PORTLAND STREET SUSPENSION BRIDGE 1853". Reverse: City coat of arms consisting of a tree in full leaf, with a bird on it, a bell hanging from it, and a salmon half way up it, with legend on banner: "LET GLASGOW FLOURISH". Plain edge. These were used for the crossing of the bridge which still stands to this day. Small token in nice collectable condition, see photograph.
