Wester Main Colliery Culross Halfcrown Token


Wester Main Colliery Culross (Fife) copper halfcrown token dated 1767. Obverse: Coat of Arms of the Earl of Dundonald with a coronet above: "VIRTUTE * ET * LABORE". Reverse: Crossed coal picks on shield: "* CULROSS. WESTER. MAIN. COLLIERY". Edge inscription in relief: "DECVS * ET * TVTAMEN * ANNO * REGNI * OCTAVO". This was issued in1767 as indicated by the edge inscription, by Archibald, Ninth Earl of Dundonald (1749-1831). Nice collectable condition for type, see photograph.
