Irish James II Limerick Besieged Farthing 1691

James II Gun Money farthing dated 1691. This was struck during the siege of Limerick (1690-91) from small gun money shillings. Features of the original coin can be clearly seen. Issued after James II landed in Ireland in a bid to recapture his throne. This base metal coinage was intended to be temporary, and replaced once he succeeded in his bid, which of course, did not happen. Good collectable condition for type with small flan edge crimp, see photograph.

Spink No: 6595. Diameter 23mm. F-. £95.00
