James II Gun Money halfpenny dated 1691. This was struck during the siege of Limerick (1690-91) from gun money shillings. Features of the original coin can be clearly seen, especially in the portrait. Issued after James II landed in Ireland in a bid to recapture his throne. This base metal coinage was intended to be temporary, and replaced once he succeeded in his bid, which of course, did not happen. Nice collectable condition for type, see photograph.
