James II Gun Money shilling dated January 1689. Issued after James II landed in Ireland in a bid to recapture his throne. This base metal coinage was intended to be temporary, and replaced once he succeeded in his bid, which of course, did not happen. This is the only coinage released with the month of issue included in the date as it was proposed that it should be redeemed in sequence of issue.
