Charles I Forty Pence Briot's Issue

Charles I (1625-1649) silver forty pence, Third Coinage, Briot's issue with "B" at end of obverse and reverse legends. Obverse: Crowned bust to left with "XL" indicating denomination surrounded by four lozenges behind the head and legend with lozenge stops: "CAR D G SCOT ANG FR ET HIB R" (Charles by the grace of God King of Scotland England France and Ireland). Reverse: Crown over thistle and legend with lozenge stops: "SALVS REIPVIBLICE SVPREMA LEX" (The safety of the state is the supreme law). Good collectable condition for type with reverse slightly off-centre, see photograph.
