Charles I (1625-1649) silver half merk (six shillings and eight pence / eighty pence), Third Coinage, Briot's issue. Obverse: Crowned bust to left with lozenge to right of value only: "VI ◊" and "8" below, indicating denomination, behind the head and legend: "CAR • D:G • SCOT • ANG • FR • ET • HIB • R • B" (Charles by the grace of God King of Scotland England France and Ireland) with "B" below bust. Reverse: Crown over royal shield dividing crowned "C - R" with lozenge below either side and legend: "• CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO •" (I reign under the auspices of Christ) with "B" above left side of crown.
