James VI Contemporary Counterfeit Hardhead 1558 Issue


James VI (1567-1625) crude contemporary counterfeit copper hardhead (two pence) issue of 1558. Obverse: Crowned "IR" in centre with botched legend which should read: "+ IACOBVS 6 D SCO ", (James by the grace of God King of Scotland). Reverse: Crowned lion rampant again with botched legend which should read: "+ VINCIT VERITAS ", (Truth prevails). Good collectable condition for type on a large thin flan, see photograph.
