James V (1513-1542), base silver, (.250 fineness) bawbee (six pence), Edinburgh mint, type 1 with no annulets on obverse and single pellet stops obverse, triple pellet stops reverse. Obverse: Crowned thistle with "I 5" either side, no pellets in crown and legend: "IACOBVS • D • G • REX • SCOTORVM". Reverse: Saltire cross with crown at centre and lis either side with legend: "OPPIDVM • EDINBVRGI", (Town of Edinburgh). James V was the father of the unfortunate Mary Queen of Scots. Reasonable collectable condition with some pitting, see photograph.
