James III Light Issue I Edinburgh Groat c.1467

James III (1460-1488), silver groat (twelve pence), Light Issue I (c.1467), Edinburgh mint. Obverse: Tressure of nine arcs with facing crowned bust and saltires either side of neck, mm cross pattée and double saltire stops. Legend: "+IACOBVS D GRA REX SCOTORVM", note the "X" is on its side. Reverse: Alternate triple pellets with saltires in centre and pierced mullets of six points and legend with double saltire stops. Outer legend: "+DNS P | TECTO | R MS § | LIBRTV". Inner legend: "+VIL | LA E | DINB | VRG". Very rare coin in good collectable condition, has been cleaned in the past, see photograph.
