Alexander III (1249-1286), second coinage, silver penny, class E1/E. Obverse: Bust to left with pellet between "D" and "E" with legend reading: "+ALEXANDER DEI GRA". Reverse: Four mullets of five points giving a total of twenty points thus indicating a supposed mint town of Edinburgh. Legend reads: "REX SCOTORVM+" with an extra pellet in the second and two in the fourth quarters. Lettering with incurved uprights, wedge-tailed "R" and genuinely closed "C" on reverse.
