Very rare Covent Garden First Theatre (1733-1808) Pit Pass. This issue commemorated the Duke of Cumberland's victory over Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite force at Culloden in 1746. The theatre was later destroyed by fire in 1808 and subsequently rebuilt. Obverse: Bust of the Duke of Cumberland to the right with legend: "GVLIELMVS • DVX • CVMBRIÆ •". Reverse legend: "PIT" in centre. Plain edge. Listed in Withers' "The Token Book 3" as "RR - VERY RARE". Ex-David Young Collection. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
