Scarce British Colonies (Jamaica / Canada) penny token dated 1825. Obverse: Bust, possibly of George IV, to left with legend: “BRITISH COLONIES”. Reverse: Commerce seated on cotton bale holding olive branch with legend: “TO FACILITATE TRADE 1825”. Plain edge. This is also thought to have circulated in Jamaica and Canada. Listed in Lyall's “The Tokens, Checks, Metallic Tickets, Passes and Tallies of the British Caribbean & Bermuda” as “SCARCE”. Reasonable collectable condition with a flan flaw on reverse, see photograph.
