Alnwick Castle Restoration Silver Medallion 1766

The Duke of Northumberland’s silver medallion struck to commemorate the restoration of Alnwick Castle. The castle was reconstructed in the Gothic Style mainly by Robert Adam for Hugh Percy, First Duke of Northumberland (1715-1786). Obverse: Bust of the Duke of Northumberland to the right with legend: "HU • PERCY DUKE OF NOR •". Reverse: Stylised view of the castle with legend: "ALNWICK CASTLE RESTORED" and date in exergue: "MDCCLXVI". On each side is the name of the engraver: I. KIRK. F.".
