Sheffield Workhouse Overseers of the Poor Shilling 1811

Sheffield Workhouse (Yorkshire) silver shilling token dated 1811. Obverse: Arms consisting of eight arrows diagonally arranged between pheons with wings above and date below with legend: “SHEFFIELD 1811”. Reverse: Legend on four lines, the top curved: “OVERSEERS OF THE POOR ONE SHILLING TOKEN”. Diagonally milled edge (/////). These were issued by the Overseers of the Poor in order to make weekly payments to the paupers of Sheffield. Reasonable collectable condition, see photograph.
