Rare Willoughby's Alfred the Great Frome Two Shillings 1812

Rare Willoughby & Sons Frome (Somerset) silver two shillings dated 1812. Obverse: Bust of Alfred the Great with legend: “FROME SELWOOD TOKEN FOR 2 SHILLINGS”. Reverse: Cross with sugar loaf in base and legend: “A ONE POUND NOTE GIVEN FOR 10 TOKENS AT MESSRS WILLOUGHBY & SONS 1812”. Diagonally milled edge (/////). Issued by the Willoughby's who were retail grocers, wine and spirit merchants. Listed in Dalton's “THE SILVER TOKEN COINAGE 1811-1812” as: “R - RARE”. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
