Scarce John Hand's Sheffield (Yorkshire) copper halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: Four clasped hands in the form of a cross with legend: “LOVE PEACE AND UNION. 1794”. Reverse: Armorial device consisting of eight crossed arrows with an arrow-head or pheon on either side with legend: “HALFPENNY * PAYABLE AT IOHN HANDS SHEFFIELD*”. Plain edge. Listed in Bell's “Commercial Coins. 1787 - 1804” as “SCARCE”. The obverse design is a pun on the issuer's name, Hands. Good collectable condition for type, better than photograph.
