Rare Hands' Blacksmiths Sheffield Halfpenny 1794


Hand's Sheffield (Yorkshire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: View of a blacksmith's forge with three men at work around an anvil with legend: “SUCCESS TO TRADE 1794”. Reverse: A shield with banded arrows between two ornaments, between sprigs of oak with legend: “THROUGHOUT THE GLOBE”. Plain edge. Listed in Bell's "Commercial Coins. 1787 - 1804" as "RARE". The issuer is uncertain but it is thought possibly to have been the diesinker and manufacturer Hands. Nice collectable condition for type, see photograph.
