John Hands' Cutlers Sheffield Halfpenny 1793

John Hand's Sheffield (Yorkshire) copper halfpenny token dated 1793. Obverse: Bust of a smiling man in a turned-up, broad-rimmed hat with the word “halfpenny” misspelt in the legend: “YORKSHIRE HALFPENEY 1793”. Reverse: A representation of the Arms of the Guild of Cutlers with legend: “PAYABLE IN SHEFFIELD”. Plain edge. The issuer is uncertain but it is thought possibly to have been the diesinker and manufacturer John Hands. Nice collectable condition for type with weak strike at high points, see photograph.
