Scarce John Hand's Sheffield (Yorkshire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1793. Obverse: Bust of a smiling man in a turned-up, broad-rimmed hat with the word “halfpenny” misspelt in the legend: “YORKSHIRE HALFPENEY 1793”. Reverse: A representation of the Arms of the Guild of Cutlers with legend: “PAYABLE IN SHEFFIELD”. Engrailed edge. Listed in Bell's “Commercial Coins. 1787 - 1804” as “SCARCE”. The issuer is uncertain but it is thought possibly to have been the diesinker and manufacturer John Hands.
