Scarce Birmingham (Warwickshire) copper Conder
halfpenny token dated 1793. Obverse: Female holding fasces, seated on
large rock with legend: “BIRMING.M
COMPANY. 1793”. Reverse: Stork standing on cornucopia with legend:
“+HALFPENNY PAYABLE AT”. Edge inscription: “BIRM. LIVERPOOL OR LONDON.”.
This counterfeit piece was intended to be mistaken for genuine tokens of
the Birmingham Mining and Copper Company. Listed in Bell's
“Specious Tokens and those struck for General Circulation”
as “SCARCE”. Nice collectable condition, see
