Henry Biggs' Dr. Samuel Johnson Birmingham Halfpenny

Henry Biggs’ Birmingham (Warwickshire) copper halfpenny token, undated. Obverse: Bust of Samuel Johnson to the right with legend: “DR. SAMUEL JOHNSON”. Reverse: Three lions rampant with legend: “PROMISSORY HALFPENNY PAYABLE AT”. Edge inscription: “BIRMINGHAM W. HAMPTON OR LITCHFIELD”. This was issued by Henry Biggs who was the landlord of a public house named either, the “General Elliot”, or the “Dr. Johnsons Head”, located in Moore Street, Birmingham.
