Birmingham (Warwickshire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1796.
Obverse: Detailed view of a large building with two wings surrounding a
quadrangle and legend: “BIRMM POOR HOUSE HALFPENNY
TOKEN ---- PAYABLE THERE”. Reverse: Bees swarming around a beehive with
legend: “FOR THE USE OF THE PARISH ---- I. Alston. Fecit 1796”.
Engrailed edge. J. Alston appears to be an official connected with the
Poor House around the time of issue. Ex-Gahlin Collection. Lovely
