Very Rare Benjamin Jacob's Birmingham (Warwickshire) copper Conder penny token dated 1798. Obverse: Man holding scales standing behind shop counter on which there are various ironmonger items with legend: “PENNY TOKEN 1798”. Reverse: Legend on five lines with hand holding auctioneer’s hammer between the fourth and fifth line: “Bn. JACOB AUCTIONEER IRONMONGER. &c WELCH CROSS BIRMINGHAM”. Plain edge. Listed in Bell's “Tradesmens Tickets and Private Tokens 1785-1819” as “VERY RARE” as according to Bell only 108 were struck. Good collectable condition with the odd edge bruise, see photograph.
