Very scarce Garraway's Croydon (Surrey) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1797. Obverse: Cypher of "DG" in centre with legend: "• HALFPENNY • PAYABLE AT GARRAWAYS CROYDON". Reverse: A teapot in centre with legend: "THE BEST TEAS IN CROYDON • 1797 •". Plain edge. Garraway was a tea dealer and grocer with a business in Croydon. This was a second issue to correct the diesinker's spelling errors on the original token. Listed in Bell's "Commercial Coins 1787-1804" as "VERY SCARCE".
