Manning’s Ipswich (Suffolk) copper halfpenny token undated. Obverse: Elaborate Arms, Supporters and Crest of the City of Ipswich above banner reading: “KING LORD & COMMONS”. Reverse: Man with team of horses ploughing uphill on a headland behind which a sailing ship is passing with legend: “GOD PRESERVE THE PLOUGH & SAIL”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT ROBERT MANNINGS IPSWICH . X X .”. Robert Manning was the Master of the sailing vessel “Defiance”, trading between London and Ipswich.
