Tallant's Hoxne Suffolk Yeoman & Horse Halfpenny 1795

Thomas Tallant's Hoxne (Suffolk) copper halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: A member of the Loyal Suffolk Yeomanry Cavalry in uniform, dismounted and leaning on his horse, with his left hand resting on his sabre with legend: “PRO. ARIS. ET. FOCIS.”. Reverse: A castle with two towers on which colours are flying, with “1795” beneath, all encircled by a banner reading: “LIBERTY. LOYALTY. PROPERTY”, surmounted by a crown with legend: “HOXNE & HARTSMERE SUFFOLK LOYAL YEOMANRY CAVALY.” Edge inscription: “GOD SAVE THE KING AND CONSTITUTION .X.”. This was issued by Thomas Tallant who was probably a member of the Hoxne and Hartsmere troop of the Loyal Suffolk Yeomanry Cavalry. As well as currency, this token was probably used as a Volunteer medalet. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
