Prentice's Bungay (Suffolk) copper halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: Hand holding a scroll on which is written on five lines: “We promife to pay the Bearer on DEMAND one HALFPENNY BUNGAY 1795.”. Reverse: Figure of Justice holding sword and scales, standing on pedestal with legend: “FOR THE USE OF TRADE”. Edge inscription: “S. PRENTICE S. DELF M. ABEL”. This was issued by three freeholder traders in Bungay namely; Samuel Prentice, a grocer and chandler; Samuel Delf, a whitesmith and brazier; Matthias Abel, Snr., a grocer and draper.
