Scarce Robert Loder's Woodbridge (Suffolk) copper Conder penny token dated 1796. Obverse: Bust of Thomas Sekford to right with legend: “THO: SEKFORD ESQ. FOUNDED WOODBRIDGE ALMS-HOUSES 1587.”. Reverse: Shield of arms between palm branches and the motto: “ORATIONES . ET . ELEEMOS . ASCENDVMT . IN . MEMORIAM . 4CORAM . DEO.*”, within a beaded circle and legend: “AT WHOSE EXPENSE COUNTY MAPS WERE FIRST ENGRAVED 1574*”. Edge inscription: “PUBLISHED BY R. LODER 1796”. Listed in Bell's “Tradesmen's Tickets and Private Tokens” as “SCARCE”. Robert Loder was a printer, bookseller and stationer in Woodbridge and wrote “Statutes and ordinances of Sekford's Almshouses”.
