Philip Deck's Post Office Marquis Cornwallis Bury Penny 1794

Philip Deck’s Bury (Suffolk) copper Conder penny token dated 1794. Obverse: Bust to left in cocked hat and epaulettes with legend: “CHARLES MARQUIS CORNWALLIS”. Reverse: Winged figure of Fame blowing trumpet, standing between weapons of war with legend: “HIS FAME RESOUNDS FROM EAST TO WEST”. Edge inscription: “VALUE ONE PENNY AT P. DECKS POST OFFICE BURY 1794”. Philip Deck was a freeholder and bookseller with premises in Crown Street, and also the Postmaster of Bury. Lovely collectable condition in high relief with much original lustre remaining, see photograph.
