Scarce Samuel Prentice's Bungay Penny 1795

Scarce Samuel Prentice's Bungay (Suffolk) copper Conder penny token dated 1795. Obverse: Remains of an ancient fortress with legend and date: “BUNGAY HALFPENNY 1796”. Reverse: Figure of blindfold Justice, standing on a pedestal, holding sword and scales with legend: “FOR THE USE OF TRADE”. Edge inscription: “DOUBLE TOKEN PAYABLE BY S. PRENTICE •X•X•X•”.  Listed in Dalton & Hamer as: “SCARCE”. This was issued by Samuel Prentice, a grocer and chandler with his business in Bungay. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
