Rare Walcot Turnpike Bath (Somerset) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1796. Obverse: Crowned and bearded bust to left with quiver of arrows over shoulder: “BLADUD FOUNDER OF BATH. SUCCESS TO THE BATH WATERS”. Reverse: View of turnpike gate and gatehouse: “WALCOT TURNPIKE TOKEN NO TRUST 1796”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT WALCOT TURNPIKE BATH”. Listed in Bell's "Commercial Coins 1787-1804" as "R- RARE" as only a few pounds weight were issued at around 45 tokens to the pound. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
