Ferrier's Tay Bridge & Fisherman Perth Halfpenny 1797



Ferrier's Perth (Perthshire) copper halfpenny token dated 1797. Obverse: Salmon fisherman dragging a net ashore beside a beached boat with legend: "RETE TRAHITO FAUSTE", "WRIGHT JUN.R DES". Reverse: City crest below a bridge with distant hills in background and legend: "PERTH HALFPENNY 1797", "TAY BRIDGE", "FINISH-ED 1770". Edge inscription: "PAYABLE ON DEMAND BY JOHN FERRIER". John Ferrier was a hosier with a business in Perth. This dated issue is far less common than the undated variety. Lovely collectable condition with a dark tone, see photograph.
