Scarce Jeremiah Spence's Newcastle (Northumberland) copper Conder halfpenny token undated. Obverse: A keelman in his best clothes (which would have been a flat hat, blue coat, yellow waistcoat, slate grey trousers, buckled shoes and a stick) with legend: “*J. SPENCE * SLOP-SELLER * NEWCASTLE* JAMES”. Reverse: Seated Britannia leaning on shield and holding spear with legend: "ROUSE BRITANNIA!**". Edge inscription: “SPENCE x DEALER x IN x COINS x LONDON x”. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as: “SCARCE”. Jeremiah Spence was a slop seller, or seaman's clothier, with a business on the quayside, and was the younger brother of Thomas Spence.
