Scarce Absolon's Yarmouth (Norfolk) copper halfpenny token dated 1792. Obverse: Man of war with open gunports in full sail to right with legend: "YARMOUTH HALFPENNY 1792". Reverse: Arms of the Borough of Yarmouth, three lions with herring tails, rose countermark on the right with legend: "LET YARMOUTH FLOURISH". Edge inscription: "PAYABLE AT THE GLASS WAREHOUSE OF W. ABSOLON .X.". William Absolon was a china and glass dealer in Great Yarmouth. The significance of the rose countermark is unknown. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as: "SCARCE".
