Ashley’s Aylsham (Norfolk) copper halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: Arms, crest, supporters and motto of the Grocers’ Company with legend: “PROSPERITY TO THE TOWN OF AYLSHAM”. Reverse: The triple ostrich plumes crest of the Prince of Wales with legend: “INDUSTRY IS THE PARENT OF SUCCESS HALFPENNY 1795”. Edge inscription: “S & T ASHLEY”, the remainder crosses and dots. The Ashleys were shopkeepers with a business in Aylsham. Nice collectable condition with slightly weak strike in parts of the legend as usual for type, see photograph.
