Rare Reverend Daniel Collyer's Wroxham (Norfolk) copper threepence token dated 1797. Obverse: A wheelbarrow containing a spade and a mattock with legend: “TO • PAY • WORKMEN • AND • PROMOTE • AGRICULTURE * MARLE • PIT TOKEN”. Reverse: Legend on seven lines: “3 PENCE PAYABLE AT WROXHAM • D. COLLYER • PROPRIETOR • 1797”. Plain edge. Listed in Bell's “Commercial Coins 1787-1804” as “R - RARE”. Reverend Daniel Collyer, as well as being a minister, was owner of marle pits near Wroxham and used these tokens to pay his workers. Good collectable condition with a couple of light edge bruises, see photograph.
